Strategi Pendapatan Petani Jagung terhadap Fluktuasi Harga dan Kondisi Jalan dalam Meningkatkan Kesejahteraan di Desa Bau Selatan Kabupaten Tana Toraja

Abstract

This study aims to analyze corn farmers’ income strategies in response to price dynamics and road conditions in improving farmers’ welfare in Bau Selatan Village, Tana Toraja Regency. Corn farming is the main livelihood for rural communities; however, unstable prices and inadequate road infrastructure often constrain market access and increase production and distribution costs. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach to capture farmers’ real conditions and adaptive strategies. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation involving corn farmers, village officials, and related local stakeholders. The findings indicate that price fluctuations and poor road conditions significantly affect farmers’ income stability and welfare levels. To address these challenges, farmers implement various strategies, including adjusting selling prices through local collectors, reducing production and transportation costs, utilizing family labor, and selecting alternative distribution routes. These strategies help farmers maintain income continuity despite infrastructure limitations. The study concludes that income strategies based on price adaptation and accessibility considerations play an important role in enhancing farmers’ welfare and should be strengthened through infrastructure development, market information access, and supportive rural development policies
